The New Issue page provides a template view for entering information about new issues in your software development process. Some of the entry fields provide drop-down lists from which pre-defined criteria can be selected. This criteria (product, build number, severity, etc.) is pre-defined by your Issue Manager administrator.
Note All mandatory fields (Issue Type, Product, Release, Platform, Component, Severity, Synopsis, and Description) are highlighted in yellow. You cannot submit an issue without completing these fields.
The tabs along the lower portion of the view allow you to add greater detail to submitted issues. See “Adding Other Details to Issues” later in this chapter for more information about how to use these tabs.
Procedure To enter a new issue:
1 Open the New Issue page by clicking the New Issue button on the toolbar.
2 On the New Issue page, select values for the mandatory fields from the drop-down lists or enter the appropriate information:
- Issue Type
- Product
- Release
- Platform
- Component
- Severity
As you enter product, component, and release information, Issue Manager dynamically assigns an inbox and an initial state for the issue based on pre-configured routing and workflow rules set up by your administrator.
3 On the Description tab, briefly explain the issue in the Synopsis field and type a detailed explanation of the issue in the Description field.
4 Use the tabs in the lower part of the view to enter additional information. See “Adding Other Details to Issues” for detailed information on using these tabs.
Note Your administrator determines the tabs that are available here; not tabs may appear in your version of Issue Manager.
- Associate Customers with the issue.
- Associate an Attached File with the issue.
- Associate SilkTest Testcases with the issue.
- Add an email Notification trigger to the issue (your Issue Manager Administrator may have already defined default rules for email triggers).
- Add Custom information to the issue.
5 Click OK to save the issue to the database and create an entry on the History tab.
The New Issue page displays the information that you entered; it also displays action buttons that are appropriate for the current state of the issue. Issue Manager also assigns a number to the issue.
