Adding Other Details to Issues

Adding customer information to an issue

Procedure To track information about customers who have reported an issue to your organization:

1    Click the New Issue button on the toolbar to display the New Issue page.

2    Click the Customers tab to display the Customers page.

3    Click the Add Customer button to access the Add Customer page in which you can add information about the customer who reported the issue.

4    Enter a case number for this issue.

5    (mandatory) Enter the name of the company from which the issue was reported.

6    Enter Contact information for the customer.

 

7    Click OK to have Issue Manager add this entry to the Customers tab of this issue.

8    Continue to fill out information about the issue as required. Click OK to save the issue. Issue Manager adds an entry to the History tab stating that you have made a customer entry to this issue.

Attaching files to issues

Procedure To add a file to a new issue

1    Click the New Issue button on the toolbar to access the New Issue page.

2    Click the Attached Files tab to display the Attached Files page.

3    Click the Add File button.

4    Type the complete path and file name in the File field. Or click Browse to select the file you want to attach. Optionally, type a description of the file in the Description field.

 

5    Click OK to add the file to the Attached Files tab.

6    Continue to fill out information about the issue as required. Click OK to save the issue. Issue Manager adds an entry to the History tab stating that you have uploaded a file to this issue.

Note Issue Manager’s Upload Manager offers a convenient method of uploading files directly to issues in your Issue Manager database. See “Using Upload Manager” for details.

Attaching a SilkTest testcase to an issue

You may attach SilkTest testcases to Issue Manager issues. QA and development personnel can then directly execute these testcases by clicking the Run Testcase icon on the Testcases tab.

Note SilkTest testcases can also be imported with Issue Manager’s SilkTest Intelligent Assistant. See “Using the SilkTest Intelligent Assistant” for full details on this approach.

Procedure To attach a testcase to a new issue:

1    Click the New Issue button on the toolbar to display the New Issue page.

2    Click the Testcases tab to display the Testcases page.

3    Click the Add Testcase button to display the Add Testcase dialog. Fill in the required fields as described below:

-   Type the complete path and file name in the Script file, Plan file, and Result file fields. Or click the corresponding Browse buttons to select the file(s) you want to attach.

-   Type the name of the testcase in the Testcase field (do not type parentheses after the testcase name).

-   In the Arguments field, type any arguments that are required by the testcase. Multiple arguments can be separated with commas or semicolons.

-   Specify the Platform on which the testcase is to be run by either selecting the platform from the Platform drop-down list or by typing a pattern that includes a wildcard (e.g., W% to specify all Windows platforms).

 

4    Click OK to proceed. Issue Manager adds an entry to the Testcases tab.

5    Continue to fill out information about the issue as required. Click OK to save the issue. Issue Manager adds an entry to the History tab stating that you have added a SilkTest testcase to this issue.

Adding email notification to an issue

Procedure To add an email notification trigger to an issue:

1    Click the New Issue button on the toolbar to display the New Issue page.

2    Click the Edit button to enable editing of the issue.

3    Click the Notification tab to display the Notifications page.

4    Click the New Notification button to display the New Notification dialog. On this dialog you can enter the information required for sending an email notification regarding this new issue.

5    Choose a Rule from the drop-down list.

6    Select a radio button in the From area to indicate whether the return address of the notification should be:

-   The user who edits the issue (and thereby triggers the notification)

-   Another user, to be selected from the drop-down list

7    Enter the notification recipient’s email address in the To field. Multiple recipients can be entered with their addresses separated by commas. Use the Add address drop-down list to easily add the addresses of users who have accounts within the system.

8    (optional) Fill in the Subject field and Introduction text that should be included with the notification.

9    Select one of the Content radio button to define the notification type you wish to send:

-   Issue summary

-   Issue summary with description

-   Full issue detail

10    Fill in the optional Trailer information. This is content that will appear at the end of the notification.

 

11    Continue to fill out information about the issue as required. Click OK to save the issue. Issue Manager adds an entry for the trigger to the Notifications tab of the issue and adds an entry to the History tab stating that you have added an email notification rule to this issue.

Using the Custom Tab

The Custom tab contains any custom fields or lists that your Issue Manager Administrator has set up for use. Contact your Issue Manager Administrator, or refer to the SilkCentral Issue Manager Administration Guide for information about available fields in the Custom tab.

Canceling a new issue

Once an issue has been saved, it cannot be deleted from the database. Issues that have not yet been saved can however be canceled.

Procedure To cancel a new issue that has not been saved:

1    Click the Cancel button on the New Issue page.

Issue Manager then cancels the issue and clears all the entry fields on the New Issue page.
